Anne Hersom, Intern
Hi, I’m Anne Hersom, a Marriage and Family Therapist intern currently working toward my MFT and LPC credentials. I hold a master’s degree in special education, with specialties in early childhood education, challenging behaviors, and moderate to severe intellectual disabilities.
With over 20 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families, I’ve held roles in early intervention, early childhood special education, elementary resource teaching, and case management within foster care and the judicial system. This diverse experience has given me a deep understanding of the unique challenges related to
trauma, behavioral issues, and neurodiversity.
I believe that behavior is a form of communication, and one of the keys to healing is slowing down and genuinely listening to one another. Our actions, thoughts, and emotions are deeply connected to our physical and mental well-being, and when we understand this mind-body connection, we can begin to integrate our experiences in a
way that fosters healing and growth. When our mind, body, and emotions are in disintegration, it can lead to distress, but by consciously working to integrate these aspects of ourselves, we can restore balance and well-being.
I approach counseling with a non-directive, nonjudgmental style, which means I meet you where you are at.
My goal is to create a safe, nurturing space where healing, growth, and self-expression can flourish. Working from an attachment-based framework, I integrate therapeutic techniques such as CBT, DBT, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT),
Experiential methods, and Gottman approaches. In my work with children and families, I use play therapy, helping
clients to build self-esteem and emotional safety in their relationships. Play is vital for emotional expression and growth, for BOTH children and adults. It allows freedom to explore, connect and be present in the moment, a gift often lost as we age into adulthood, and necessary for a child’s healthy development. Play offers each of us access to parts of ourselves that words may not express, which in turn fosters healing, and self-awareness.
I believe that everyone has the capacity to define and redefine who they are and who they want to become, regardless of their past. Life’s challenges can serve as opportunities for growth and transformation. I am passionate about helping others overcome obstacles, build resilience, and rediscover their unique strengths.

I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward healing and self-discovery.
